National and Transnational Memory in Contemporary French Cinema (Sébastien Fevry)

My research project aims to study the representations of memory in the French contemporary cinema by taking into account the play of popular genres as comedy or melodrama. In this framework, my research aims to understand how the questions of transnational memory and national memory are articulated in the landscape of French popular cinema. More particularly, my attention focuses, on the one hand, on sepia films that tend to promote a national memory and, on the other hand, on films which develop a multidirectional memory by linking, for example, the current question of immigration with the memory of Occupation and the Vichy period.
