Jonas is a fellow of the Frankfurt Memory Studies Platform at Goethe University Frankfurt and a member of the CITCOM research group at the Centre for Comparative Studies (CEComp), University of Lisbon. His work builds on a PhD in comparative literature and cultural studies from the University of Lisbon, with a dissertation on decolonial turns in urban memory politics in Hamburg and Lisbon, and on research stays at Goethe University Frankfurt and Stellenbosch University.
His research and writing focus on postcolonial memory, decolonial heritage practices and urban citizenship in Germany and Portugal, with articles and chapters published in venues such as Memory Studies and in edited volumes with Routledge and Brill, including a forthcoming book based on Lusophone and Luso‑Creole migration and memory. He has taught seminars on memory culture and democracy at the University of Lisbon, the Goethe University Frankfurt, and at the University of Hamburg.
